February Half Term Activities in and around Buckingham

While it's nice to have some quieter days at home, it's also a great opportunity to pack in some fun activities that you can't cram into your average weekend. So, whether you are in Buckingham for the day or for the February half-term week, there are lots of things for the kids to do and family friendly activities to keep everybody entertained. To help with your itineraries, we’ve put together some suggestions that won’t break the bank, from outdoor adventures to rainy day activities and ground-breaking puzzle solving games!

Visit Buckingham Old Gaol Museum: Open Monday to Saturday from 10.00am, last admission is 3.30pm. Entry fee £3.50 per adult, £2 per child (aged 5-16yrs) and Family Ticket £9 (covers 2 adults and up to 3 children). There will be two special open evenings during half term giving you one last chance to see the Richard III exhibition before it is moved to its permanent display. Free entry to the exhibition on Thursday 24th and Friday 25th from 5pm - 8pm.

Harvey and the Moon Bus: A fun self-led paper trail map walk for littles ones, taking you through Buckingham's parks, based on the book by local author Jill Stanton-Huxton. Just pop into our gift shop and pick up a trail map for £1.80.

Buxplore: After a gloomy winter, February half term is a perfect time to get back outside in the fresh air and enjoy our open spaces. Why not download the free Buxplore community heritage app to help you discover Buckingham? Choose your route and take a tour around the Town and surrounding green spaces, you will complete activities, questions, and mysteries.

PK Kids Zone: This indoor soft play centre now offers pottery painting so you can come along and use the soft play, paint some pottery which will keep younger children occupied for a good couple of hours. Big kids can also have fun painting a keepsake.

Buckingham Canal Society Painted Rock Hunt: From 19th - 27th February go for a walk and explore the canal along Bourton Meadow and Cosgrove, and hunt for painted rocks. Keep them or re-hide them, and don’t forget to share your photos to their Facebook page.

Pancake Races 22nd February: Organized by Buckingham Town Council the races take place on the green at St Peter and St Paul's Church at 11am. All entrants welcome: 3 age categories for children, plus adult individuals, and teams welcome. Prizes will be awarded by the Mayor to the winner of each class. There is no entry fee. All you need to do is turn up on the day. You will need to bring your own frying pan and wear an apron and headscarf.

Pigtastic Half Term Fun: Taking place at the Larder Café (Manor Farm). Two sessions starting 9.30am and 12.00 noon on Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th. Meet the pigs, craft activities, treasure hunt and games, suitable for children aged 2-8 years. Cost £7 per child, tickets must be booked in advance but book soon as this is likely to be a sell out!

"Snowdrops" Walk at Stowe: There’s something very special about seeing snowdrops appear and knowing spring is coming soon. Explore the beautiful gardens of Stowe and follow the map to admire the swathes of snowdrops and winter flowers.

Stoke Bruerne Canal Museum: Open 10am - 4pm during half term week. Free site admission but parking charges apply. You can download free activity packs from their website.

Bletchley Park: Up for a challenge? Head to Bletchley Park for code breaking puzzles and more! Free drop-in sessions are available on certain dates and don’t forget under 12’s go free!

Visit Thrift Farm: Visit the farm to meet the baby lambs and enjoy lots of other activities including animal petting, quad bikes, and a farmyard trail. Tickets must be booked in advance.

Milton Keynes Museum: As well as all the usual attractions there will be five days of activities and guaranteed fun to entertain children during their ‘free’ week from 21st - 25th February.
