22 Things we’re looking forward to in Buckingham 2022

We’re looking ahead to a year filled with fantastic experiences in Buckingham, from unmissable events to exciting cultural moments, as well as making the most of what is on offer every day in our historic market town and surrounding attractions. We couldn’t list all the great events planned but if you have one coming up which you would like us to share, please get in touch.

Richard III and the Buckingham Half-Angel Exhibition

February is the last month to see the exhibition and its rare centrepiece. The Buckingham Old Gaol are hosting two open evenings for everybody to visit the Old Gaol and see the exhibition for free on Thursday 24th and Friday 25th February 5 PM - 8 PM.

Food Fair

Buckingham’s annual Food Fair takes place on Saturday 26th February 10 AM - 3 PM at Buckingham Community Centre. With free entry you can expect an incredible selection of local produce from street food and cakes to local wine and beer, a perfect pitstop for foodie lovers.

Visiting Stately Homes, Gardens and National Trust Properties

Did you know that Buckinghamshire has the most National Trust properties out of any other county? Stowe and Claydon House are right on our doorstep and host seasonal adventures and events throughout the year in stunning surroundings. Now, is the perfect time to visit Evenly Wood Garden for their popular Snow Drop days.

Spring Fair and Scout Parade

Set in The Old Cattle Pens area this community fair opens each spring to showcase local groups and their projects with an outdoor and nature friendly theme. Taking place alongside the Buckingham and Winslow Scout District St Georges Day Parade on 24th April.

The Buckingham Half Marathon

A scenic, single 13.1-mile loop around beautiful countryside, starts and finishes at Maids Moreton Playing Fields with dedicated spectator points. Organised by Buckingham and Stowe running club, raising money for the Medical Detection Dogs.

The Queens Platinum Jubilee

We are looking forward to seeing how Buckingham celebrates this four-day bank holiday weekend from traditional street parties, picnics, and community events, to mark the Queens 70-year reign.

Buckingham Literary Festival

The dates of the main festival are 24th to 26th June, expect many events hosted across the town including pop up talks and storytelling with inspirational writer’s and dramatists.

British F1 Grand Prix Silverstone

One of the most historic circuits on the F1 calendar, the biggest and fastest race weekend with plenty of entertainment. Limited grandstand seats, general admission tickets on Friday and Saturday available, book now!

Buckingham Summer Festival

The Buckingham Summer Festival brings a week of world-class classical music to venues across town. This event usually takes place early to mid-July, keep an eye on their website for this year’s programme.

Buckingham Fringe Week

The Fringe is a celebration of arts and culture with local businesses and groups invited to take part in a week full of events and activities across town. This year it is taking place 16th to 23rd July, details still to be released.

Art Sculpture Trail

Following on from the 2021 public art otter sculpture trail, a new free trail is planned this summer. Keep your eyes peeled for news.

Buckingham Festival Gig

Ten hours of live music featuring well-loved local bands, held at Moretoneville FC Saturday 23rd July 1 PM - 11 PM. Tickets are on sale now.

Outdoor Theatre

Last year Alice In Wonderland came to the church green at St. Peter and St. Paul for two showings. Plans are taking place to bring Peter Pan on 3rd August. Details will be announced on our website soon.

Stowaway Festival

A festival in ancient woodland and lakes with hidden parties, soulful relaxation, glorious comedy, banquets and kids’ revelry. To take place 19th - 22nd August, tickets will be on sale very soon.

Towersey Festival

A festival for all ages set in the beautiful Claydon country estate, enjoy four days and nights, ten stages and venues and over one hundred bands and artists. To take place 26th - 29th August, tickets are on sale now!

BandJam

With a rockier vibe to it, BandJam takes place at the end of August over bank holiday weekend, in the market area outside the Old Gaol. This popular and free event brings together local bands and marks the end of summer for many.

Charter Fair

Each October the Charter Fair arrives in Buckingham, the event is packed full of thrilling rides, games and stalls, taking over the town centre with oodles of opportunities for fun if you’re brave enough. The fair will is coming to town Saturday 15th and 22nd October this year!

Bonfire Night and Fireworks

Bonfire and Fireworks is one of the Buckingham’s most popular events. Thousands gather in the paddock at Bourton Park for the free fantastic display of fireworks, plus the biggest bonfire for miles around. This year the event takes place on Saturday 5th November from 7pm.

Remembrance Parade

Each year Buckingham honours those who have died in war by marching through the town to the War Memorial in a Remembrance Parade. Traditionally large crowds gather around the War Memorial to watch the laying of the wreaths.

Christmas Parade

The Christmas Parade grows every year with dozens of floats and hundreds of people taking part. Each year a new theme is chosen, and local groups are invited to show off their imagination by designing the most exciting floats.

Christmas Lights Switch On

The big light switch will take place on Saturday 27th November with twinkling lights, music and carols and a fabulous festive fair.

Visiting Buckingham Markets

As well as the traditional weekly markets and Saturday Flea market, regular pop ups take place indoors at the Buckingham Community Centre. Highly advertised on social media, two popular ones to visit are organised by a group called Buckingham - Love All Things Local and Meet the Markers.
