A talk for The Arts Society, Buckingham by Justin Reay
For millennia mankind has been fascinated by the sea, marvelling at its awesome power and ethereal beauty, and utilising the coastal sea-roads and the great oceans for travel and trade. Artists have depicted the sea in all its moods and our involvement with it, and the range of subjects in marine art is wide, including seascapes, ship portraits, naval battles, strange sea creatures imagined and real, portraits of naval heroes and explorers, the seaside as a location for recreation and pleasure, and the reality of the seafarer’s life. In this talk Justin introduces unfamiliar and well-known examples from around the world and across the ages.
This event is £10 to attend for non-Arts Society members.
