African Queen (PG) at The Film Place

  • Vinson Building Hunter Street Buckingham MK18 1EG (map)

Still glorious after all these years (and some recent restoration for its 50th anniversary), this timeless classic features legendary performances by Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn. The unlikely, and initially antagonistic, partnership between grumpy gin-swilling Canadian riverboat captain and strait-laced English missionary gradually evolves into an erotic love story as together they navigate treacherous African waterways in a rickety old boat, soon after the outbreak of World War I. Perfectly cast, cleverly written, and beautifully filmed on location, it’s still thrilling, funny, and totally absorbing.

Wine will be available prior to the film.

The film will be proceeded by a short introductory talk.
