Christmas in Buckingham

Welcome to Christmas in Buckingham, here you can find information about what’s on and some inspiration about where to buy your Christmas presents locally during this festive season!

The festive season officially kicks off on Saturday 26th November when the Christmas Lights will be turned on. The main event will take place along Market Hill from 6pm until 8pm; expect real reindeer, musical entertainment, and late-night shopping opportunities throughout the town. Organised by Buckingham Town Council, it is an event for residents, businesses, and visitors to enjoy.

In conjunction with the lights being turned on, we will also launch our Buckingham Festive Trail for families to enjoy, so make sure you visit the Saturday Street Market to meet our Elf character from midday and pick up a trail map. Participants can win £100 (thanks to a kind donation from Buckingham Table) to spend in a local Buckingham shop if they complete correctly the trail. Find all the details here.

Buckingham’s shops, cafes, restaurants, and takeaways will of course be open and ready for your custom, and you will not find a friendlier welcome and service than with your local businesses. Shoppers will also be able to browse over forty stalls at a pop-up indoor Christmas Craft Fair by Meet the Makers at Buckingham Community Centre from 10am until 4pm.

Even if you do not celebrate Christmas, it is always a special time to come together with friends and family and enjoy the magic of the season. So why not show your support and love for local businesses this Christmas, by grabbing a Buckingham Festive Trail map, explore the streets, enjoy lunch or dinner in town and see the lights and window displays.

Throughout December, children will have the opportunity to visit Father Christmas at the Old Gaol on Sundays between 10am and 4pm.
On Saturday 10th December, the Christmas Parade will take over the town with dozens of creative floats put together by local groups from Buckingham and the surrounding areas, followed by the Community Fair.
Planning a trip to Stowe? Between now and Christmas, their Parlour Rooms will be filled with artisan stalls selling locally produced hand-made gifts every Saturday and Sunday and daily from 19th until Friday 23rd December.

If you need inspiration to buy your loved ones a present, we recommend a visit to Buckingham’s Hidden Quarter. There you will find a variety of independent shops selling antiques, vintage, haberdashery, indie style gifts and Fairtrade products. If you are shopping for interior home style goods, you must pay a visit to the Industrial Estate and see the show room at Secret Messages Interior. The shopping centre at Cornwall’s Meadow and Cornwall Place also has a variety of businesses where you’ll be sure to find something for the whole family.

The festive season is the perfect time to rediscover your favourite places to shop and eat which are all stocked up with extraordinary gifts and offering dining menus to cater for all tastes. Sadly, we cannot list everything available in beautiful Buckingham in this post, however our website features a handy drink & dine and shop section to help you plan your visits.
